1996 – 2021 — 25 Years of nextron
It all started at the phone booths at Barfi. The internet company nextron is now more than 20 years old and thus already a veteran in the industry. As one of the leading web agencies in the Basel region, nextron is probably known to Basel residents through their platform «www.mybasel.ch».
With the internet boom, they sprang up like mushrooms: The web design companies that create millions of internet pages. However, Basel’s nextron is special in two ways: It was one of the first companies in this market, and numerous Basel residents make use of its offerings on the internet.
Thus, the daily over 15,000 visitors on «www.mybasel.ch» (formerly «bsonline.ch») find the desired street in Basel thanks to the official city map, catch just the right tram with the BVB timetable, and quickly check what’s playing in Basel’s cinemas – including short film reviews. In addition, a free subscribable email reminder service ensures that waste paper or scrap metal is put out on the right day.
Phantom Lord, Woddel, Schelm
The platform «www.mybasel.ch» is thus at the center of nextron’s origin story, which has developed from three computer geeks into a professional company over the last ten years. «Phantom Lord», «Woddel» and «Schelm» met on a BBS mailbox (comparable to today’s chat rooms) just as the internet age was beginning. Besides exchanging tips and tricks, the three regulars developed the idea of a Basel web page, unique at the time. So in July 1995, the first meeting took place – naturally at the phone booths at Barfi, which for once formed not just the meeting point for going out, but the start of a successful company history.
Just a month later, the three were on the net with «www.bsonline.ch» – though compared to today, with a rudimentary version tailored to tourists. «The platform was the catalyst for everything that followed in the company. It provided the know-how as a practice stage and formed the reference for our customers», says Lukas Frei. In March 1996, Nextron, which had shortly before registered as a GmbH, received its first order: For 30,000 Fr., the three were allowed to create the corporate homepage for Ciba thanks to the most favorable offer; an order that would be worth several hundred thousand francs today.
25 years later – over 500 realized projects
From the company’s founding until today, nextron has been able to successfully realize over 500 projects and continues to stand by its customers as a solidly managed company, competently supporting them in the future.
